Standout Weekend for Team USA Alumni at Petit Le Mans

Dane Cameron Clinches TUSC GTD Title, While Trent Hindman Claims CTSC GS Honors

Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif. – The 17th Annual Petit Le Mans last weekend at Road Atlanta featured some spectacular racing action, a huge crowd and several superb performances from among no fewer than six former Team USA Scholarship winners who took part in the feature event, the final round of the inaugural TUDOR United SportsCar Championship.

Bryan Sellers (above, far left), who won a Team USA Scholarship in 2001 and lives in nearby Braselton, Ga., secured his second successive Petit Le Mans victory, sharing the GTLM-winning Team Falken Tire Porsche 911 RSR with Porsche factory drivers Wolf Henzler and Marco Holzer.

Andy Lally (1999) and Dane Cameron (2006) also finished the grueling 10-hour race with some silverware. Lally finished on the podium in the equally hotly contested GTD category, sharing the third-placed Magnus Racing Porsche 911 GT America with John Potter and Marco Seefried, while fourth place for the Turner Motorsport BMW Z4 of Cameron, Markus Palttala and Christopher Nygaard was enough to clinch the season-long championship for Cameron.

The other four Team USA alumni all encountered difficulties. The #07 Mazda Prototype which Joel Miller (2007) and Tristan Nunez (2012) shared with Tristan Vautier was the first car out of the race, while Joey Hand (2000) was in contention for GTLM honors until the #55 BMW Z4 GTE he shared with Andy Priaulx and Bill Auberlen also suffered mechanical woes.

Friday’s final round of the IMSA Continental Tires SportsCar Challenge also saw a Team USA Scholarship driver playing a starring role as 2011 winner Trent Hindman powered his Fall-Line Motorsports BMW M3 from 17th on the grid to third place before handing over to co-driver John Edwards. The pair needed to finish within one position of GS championship rivals Andrew Davis and Robin Liddell in order to clinch Hindman’s first-ever championship crown. A dramatic race saw the pendulum swing back and forth before Edwards took the checkered flag in second place to ensure Hindman would become the youngest GS champion in series’ history at just 19 years of age.
