Hi Everyone,

I’m back home in Florida for about a week after a long and eventful stint in Canada. We had a very difficult weekend at the Toronto Indy. Things were much better this past weekend and I can share some good news with you guys, we won at Mosport!! It was a big day for the team after everything we’ve been through this season.

Before we got on track at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (Mosport), I was invited by American Le Mans Series driver Kyle Marcelli to play in a media hockey game. I knew how to ice skate but had never played a game of hockey in my life. Of course, everyone I was with had been playing hockey since they were 5, as most Canadians do. Not to mention an ex-NHL player. I was just trying not to embarrass myself! Somehow I ended up scoring a goal – beginners luck I guess!

We had a few problems in practice on Thursday and Friday. First was an issue with the steering. Since some of the suspension was new after Toronto it needed a little bit of adjusting. We struggled with the balance of the car both days so we decided to make some bigger changes overnight for qualifying. It transformed the car; instead of being outside the top five we qualified on the front row just a few hundredths off pole.

I held on to second at the start of the race. Going down the back straight on lap two I got past Shelby Blackstock for the lead. Quickly after that a full course yellow came out for Juan Piedrahita who had a big crash. Fortunately he was alright and was back at the track the next day. After the incident was cleared we only had four laps of racing left. I made a mistake in Turn One on the last lap, I got really sideways and just hung on to it. Shelby and I were side by side on the back straight but I kept the lead to take the win. It was a huge relief for me to finally get a Pro Mazda win. It took longer than we wanted but after Toronto it felt awesome for the whole team.  To make it better, I set fastest lap of the race, which secured pole position for Sundays race.

Race two started off great. I led the first half of the race. Our session was right after the ALMS race so there was a lot of different rubber down on the track. Unfortunately it didn’t agree very well with our set-up and I really started to struggle with rear grip. Shelby passed me and I got really sideways which allowed a couple more guys by and I fell back to fourth. It would have been nice to get on the podium again but overall it was a really good weekend. Just what we needed.

Next up is Mid-Ohio, I’m looking forward to going there. We were fastest in the series test in May so hopefully we can pick up where we left off.

Special Thanks to Team Pelfrey, Gap Guard, Mockett, The Stutz Indianapolis, Mazda, Calcium Pro, California Scents, OMP and RaceLite Protection for their support.

Thanks for reading,

Spencer
